Welcome to HOM!

We can't wait for you to join our award winning music program. Below, you will learn a little bit more about what music courses we offer, fees associated with the music program, and how to get an instrument.

Your First Year

Your first year in music you can choose which instrument you want to learn or choose to sing in the chorus! In your beginner year, you will go from zero to hero--no prior musical experience is necessary to join the music program. During this year you will get to participate in three exciting concerts, a field trip where the advanced students perform at Disney, and maybe even Solo and Ensemble festival where you can earn a medal for your performance!

Flute

The flute is the highest of the woodwind instruments! It often has the melody and also very exciting fast passages.

To play the flute sign up for "Woodwinds" Class!

Clarinet

The clarinet has a super wide range, they can play beautiful low notes as well as brilliant high ones. It is perhaps most well known for being the instrument that Squidward plays.

Saxophone

The saxophone has a warm sound. In concert band it often plays harmonies, but sometimes it gets to double the french horn on epic lines. In jazz band it really gets to shine.

Trumpet

The trumpet is the highest of the brass instrument. Trumpet players tend to be a little bit competitive and like to stand out, and this instrument lets them do it!

French Horn

This instrument is for students who like a challenge. If you like the music in Star Wars or Jurassic Park, you probably love the french horn. They play all those big soaring melodies!

Trombone

The trombone is super fun because it changes notes using a slide. Trombone players tend to have a good sense of humor, so it is a fun section to be a part of.

Baritone

The baritone has the same range as the trombone, but it has valves like a trumpet does! If you like a low sound but don't want a slide, this could be the instrument for you!

Tuba

Oh the tuba! The tuba is the most important instrument in the whole band because it gives us the awesome bass sound. Tubists tend to be team players who like to hold down the fort.

Violin

The violin is the highest string instrument! Their music tends to be the most challenging in the ensemble but they get to play the melody a lot!

Viola

The viola is similar to the violin, but it is a little lower and has a more mellow sound.

Cello

The cello is the next lowest sounding string instrument. It has a beautiful tone, and when they get the melody it is so pretty!

Double Bass

Similar to the tuba, the double bass holds down the fort in the orchestra! They have a big deep sound, and also are the only string instrument that gets to participate in Jazz Band!

Percussion

Percussion is more than just drums! Percussion instruments are anything that you hit to produce a sound. So that is drums, the xylophone, and cool toys like the gongs, crash cymbals, and the tambourine! The percussion section gives the band a variety of different colors and keeps the beat.

To participate in percussion, register for Percussion Class!
